Ingredients the Best Moisturizer for Very Dry Skin Should Contain
You could argue for days about ingredients that should be included in the best moisturizer for very dry skin. But, it's pretty obvious there must be an ample supply of good emollients, anti-oxidants and natural oils.
However, you must be aware that many cosmetic chemical and synthetic based moisturizers contain cheap fillers and lubricants to keep the costs down and their profits up. Various cheap mineral oils and paraffin's (derived from crude oil) are used to provide the lubricating slip component characteristic of an emollient.
I don't know about you... but I prefer something a little more natural that won't sit in and seal the top layer of skin to clog the pore.
If you didn't already know - emollients have 3 basic properties
* Occlusion - provide a layer of oil to the surface of the skin to slow water loss thus increase moisture content of the (stratum corneum - horny layer... the outermost layer of epidermis)
* Humectant - increase the water holding capacity of the stratum corneum
* Lubrication - adding slip across the skin.
You could expect a good quality natural moisturizer to include some emollients like the following:
* Cetiol PLG - is one of 3 main natural vegetable emollients which help to soften the skin,
* Cegesoft PFO - a natural passionflower extract... an emollient to also help soften the skin.
* Crodamol CP - A nourishing plant based emollient, Ethylhexulpalmitate is derived from a fraction of palm oil lipid and is an ultra mild skin smoothing ester.
* Crodalan LA - Crodalan LA is a lipophilic emollient; Cetyl Acetate is a mixture of cetyl alcohol (coconut oil), and acetic acid (apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, pineapples, strawberries and plants).
* D-Panthenol - Panthenol (pantpthenic acid) is vitamin B5. It is a pro-vitamin. Panthenol is a humectant, emollient and moisturizer.
What are anti-oxidants and why does a good moisturizer need them? Briefly, oxidation is a chemical reaction that can produce free radicals that cause oxidative stress, which starts a chain reaction that damages cells.
A good quality natural moisturizer should include some anti-oxidants to counter oxidative stress:
* Macadamia oil - One of the most effective anti-oxidants. It has a naturally high (40%) concentration of palmitoleic acid. It's suitable for all skin types and is particularly good for dry, irritated and mature skin, because it penetrates and hydrates the skin quickly.
* CoQ10 - a natural nutrient and powerful antioxidant. Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10 is special because it has a 'nano-emulsion' delivery form that penetrates down into the skin, to rejuvenate and enhance cell activity and hydrate dry sensitive skin.
Why does a good quality moisturizer need natural oils? Your skin needs to be moisturized and hydrated with both water and oil to achieve the best results.
A good quality natural moisturizer should include natural oils like Avocado, Jojoba, Grapeseed and Shea butter. These oils help to deeply hydrate and moisturize very dry skin.
Finally, the best moisturizer for very dry skin should also include special ingredients like Cynergy TK, active manuka honey extract and phytessence wakame.
