Discovering The Benefits Of African Shea Butter
African Shea butter originated over 2,000 years ago from the Karite Nut Tree, found only in West Africa. After 20 years the Karite Nut Tree grows dark green fruits and from June to July these fruits fall to the ground and are harvested by those of West Africa. Scented or unscented doesn't matter. Refined or not does! Shea butter, in its natural state, varies in color from a beige to off-white, to a mild yellow, to a bright yellow, and has a slight nutty/smoky odor to it. When shea butter has been refined, the color and odor is removed, making it white in color, and odorless. Though nothing is added during this process, which is why it is still 100% shea butter, by removing the natural color and odor of the butter, some of shea butter's reported healing potential is lost.
